Welcome to spring, as the calendar tells us. Hopefully we are winding down on the rollercoaster weather and on to some consistently warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine (#eastcoastproblems).
Todays post will focus on spring lip colors as we transition into the warmer months. In my time as a makeup artist, I’ve heard so many concerns from women of color that are hesitant to experiment with color, especially lipsticks. It’s always been a mission of mine to help encourage women to explore their options more regardless of what society or popular magazines say you should/shouldn’t wear. If you’re still on the fence about experimenting with your look, this is the post for you!
In efforts to empower women of color to explore their makeup options more, I’ve collaborated with some pretty awesome beauty/lifestyle bloggers of color to help with this initiative. Check out these beauties for their take on spring beauty.

The challenge was to do 4 looks surrounding 4 spring/summer lipstick shades (red, coral, pink, and purple). There were no rules on how subtle or dramatic the look should be, just to be true to their aesthetic. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! Of course I kept things pretty simple, per usual, with the eyes and skin, but collected the best lippies that I had in my stash.
Here’s what I came up with
Lip color Kumquat by Bite Beauty
Nothing screams spring than a soft pink pout. This shade that I selected was subtle and goes with anything. It’s like a step up from nude if you’re not into bolder colors. For deeper skin tones you can always pair with a darker lip liner and blend for more of an ombre effect.
Lip color: So Chaud by MAC Cosmetics
So Chaud has been my JAM since my days working at MAC. I honestly haven’t pulled for So Chaude in a while and will definitely be putting it back in rotation this season. This shade is the perfect statement color and works on all skin tones.
Lip Color: Costal Chic by MAC
One of my favorite spring/summer shades is coral. Coral is one of those happy medium shades. It’s not too pink and it’s not too orange. It’s a very flirty color if you ask me.
Lip Color: Melted Violet by Too Faced
If you want to go a bit bolder, try a purple or dark fuchsia lip color and possibly something that’s glossy. Regardless of whether the shade is light or dark, purples just work for women of color.

This collaboration was SO fun and I hope that this inspires you to jump out there and try different looks! Make sure you check out the other fantastic looks that were created by my blogger boos!
